Today we went to our local comic book shop to celebrate "Free Comic Book Day," which is held ever year on the first Saturday in May. Many comic book stores have special events and sales planned for Free Comic Book Day, and our local shop, Third Eye Comics, was no different!

The place was packed! It was like Black Friday for comic book stores. Outside there was a line around the building, but luckily several comics fans were there dressed in fun cosplay costumes as characters like Link and Sheik from the Legend of Zelda, Deadpool, Spiderman, the Green Arrow, the Black Widow, and even R2-D2 and Storm Troopers from the Star Wars movies! There were other activities too, like a face-painting stand for children, comic creators on hand to sign their work, posters for the kids to color, and other free giveaway items from companies like Nintendo who gave out items to promote their video games like Kirby and the Rainbow Curse coloring books, Super Smash Bros. download cards, Zelda, Metroid and Mario tattoos, special Pokemon download cards, and even even an Animal Crossing: New Leaf fishing badge!

We got lots of great free comics, but we also bought several as well. Free Comic Book Day is a great time to go and support your local comic book retailers. The kiddo got her very first comics today, and she was very excited to get a Star Wars and Powerpuff Girls comic! Those are two of her favorites! We also got comics from series like Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man, Masters of the Universe, the Avengers, Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, Superman, Shinobi: Ninja Princess, Transformers: Robots in Disguise, Pokemon, Green Lantern, Birds of Prey, Power Girl, and the Huntress! Very cool!
