Guatemala: Attorney General Requests President's Arrest
  • 9 years ago
The Constitutional Court in Guatemala has rejected President Otto Perez Molina’s appeal to the loss of immunity. The president is forbidden to leave the country and Attorney General Thelma Aldana has requested his arrest. She noted that the president is now a common citizen in the eyes of the judicial system. Under Guatemalan law, Perez Molina could be removed from office if remanded to custody by a judge. After he was stripped of his immunity tens of thousands of jubilant people hit the streets to celebrate all night long. teleSUR
