Petty Crime on Rise in Peru as Economic Crisis Deepens

Although homicides are down in Peru, petty crime is on the rise, fed by the economic crisis. Lima has the second highest crime rate among Latin American capitals. Grass-roots groups have arisen that urge residents to take matters into their own hands and dispense justice against criminals; others call for a more efficient police force.
