Brazil: Merkel and Rousseff Reach Climate Change Agreement

During German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s visit to Brazil, she and her Brazilian counterpart have committed to a joint stance on climate change. Rousseff has committed to reducing reforestation in the Amazon to zero by the year 2030, while the German government has announced over US$650 million in financing for environmental programs in Brazil. Renewable energy sources and a land registry are among the projects to be funded. Merkel also called for a free trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur. teleSUR
