Hundreds of residents protest against assessment rate hikes

Hundreds of city dwellers thronged the Kuala Lumpur City Hall today to protest against a controversial assessment rate hike, a day before the deadline for appeals against the tax.

Even though the mass gathering has been branded as a session to meet the leaders, about 500 residents and supporters flooded the entrance to the DBKL building, shouting slogans demanding that Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Mansor drops the move to raise the assessment rates, by up to 300 percent for some.
