The Afghan interpreters left behind by the French army

At the end of 2014, the French army completely withdrew from Afghanistan. But it left behind its former Afghan interpreters who now live in fear of the Taliban, who accuse them of collaborating with the enemy. Some have received death threats and are desperately trying to reach France. Our reporters went to meet them.
In Afghanistan, the security situation continues to deteriorate, including in the capital Kabul. Afghan interpreters who worked for the French army feel particularly vulnerable. For the Taliban, anyone who has worked with foreigners is a traitor.
We met several former interpreters for the French army in Kabul. Most of them preferred to speak anonymously for security reasons, and there was obviously no question of us showing where they live. But once we took those precautions, these former translators were keen to tell us their story.
