The Chant - Climax Jazz Band 1977
An hour ago I posted a 1976 recording of the Chant by the Dutch Swing College Band. I had not seen that clip before. Now I wanted to see how we did when we recorded that same tune. Somewhere I remembered we had played it on one of the Peter Appleyard TV Shows from the seventies. It took a bit of research and yes, I found the clip. Funny I thought I had posted it on youtube at some time before, but, obviously I hadn’t. I now see that we didn’t follow Jelly Roll Morton’s arrangement completely either.
Since my early years in jazz in the fifties I have been admiring Peter Schilperoort and his Dutch Swing College Band so it is with great pride that I’m able to place this right following the DSC’s version here on dailymotion and on youtube.
Our Climax Jazz Band at that time had Jim Buchmann on clarinet, Geoff Holmes on trombone, Jack Vincken banjo, Max Littlejohns drums, Chris Daniels bass and myself Bob Erwig on cornet
