The trial of the former president of Chad has begun in Senegal. Hissene Habre appears on charges of crimes against humanity after being brought to the court by force.
It is the first time that a former leader of an African country has been put on trial in another.
Habre is accused of being responsible for the torture and killing of thousands of people while ruling his central African country from 1982 to 1990.
The trial marks the end of a fifteen-year battle to bring him to justice in Senegal where he has lived in exile after being toppled in a coup.
The 72-year-old has been held in custody since his arrest two years ago.
If found guilty the 72-year-old faces sentences ranging from 30 years to life with hard labour.
