At least 27 dead in explosion in Turkish town close to border with Syria

At least 27 people are reported killed after an explosion at a cultural centre in the southeastern Turkish town of Suruc. Dozens more people are said to have been wounded.

It is not yet clear what caused the explosion, although there are unconfirmed reports citing eyewitnesses who said they thought it was a suicide bombing. Suruc is a majority Kurd town located around 10 kilometers from the Syrian border town of Kobani, the theatre of fierce fighting in recent months between Kurdish forces and fighters loyal to the Islamist group ISIL.

One photo posted to Twitter purportedly shows the site shortly before the explosion.

Several videos and photos were also posted on social networks showing the aftermath of the blast. Most are too graphic for euronews to publish, while others show still bodies covered with newspapers l
