Syrian refugees: Islamic charities fill vacuum left by UN funding shortage
  • 9 years ago
Ramadan is coming to end and Muslims across the world are gearing up for Eid. But not everyone will be able to celebrate. With a record 4 million Syrian refugees now registered, and a lack of international support for the crisis, humanitarian organisations are feeling the pinch. Starting next month, UN food coupons will be stopped for some half a million refugees. The aid vacuum is increasingly being filled by Islamic charities, some of them clearly pursuing a Salafist agenda.
