Nepak Earthquake: Newborn enjoys naming ceremony at Tundikhel quake camp
  • 8 years ago
Bhupinder Karki, was only 4 days old when the bone-shaking earthquake hit Nepal, forcing his family out of their damaged home in Kathmandu. But, the 11-day-old is not only thriving but also perhaps enjoying his newfound celebrity status at Nepal’s biggest camp for quake survivors in Tundikhel. In keeping with a Nepali custom, the newborn’s naming ceremony was conducted on Friday. The parents say that they would like a name linking to the earthquake, naming him Bhupinder. At the camp, Bhupinder is the centre of attraction for children and women who stream in through the day to see the baby who is beating the odds of a squalid camp life. Bhupinder’s is one of the many inspiring stories to emerge after the devastating earthquake.
