Global Reporting Initiative to Offer Real-Time Sustainability Reporting - The Minute

The Global Reporting Initiative has been a pioneer in sustainability reporting since 2000, when it launched the first version of the GRI Guidelines, the first global framework for comprehensive sustainability reporting. Today, it offers one of the most widely used sets of reporting standards. Seven thousand five-hundred organizations have adopted GRI’s guidelines for their reporting practice. While the standards have been updated over time, now GRI is revising its strategy for the next five years with some major upgrades.

The new initiative, GRI: Empowering Sustainable Decisions, includes collaborations with technology companies to make the increasing volume of sustainability information more accessible, comparable, and most significantly, available in real time. GRI’s five-year effort will focus on four strategic areas: enabling smart policy to support disclosure; adding to its global community with more reporters and better reporting; moving beyond reports to create more access to information; and leveraging tech innovation to help more reporting organizations succeed while using GRI standards. That sounds like a plan.
