U.S. Supreme Court Legalizes Same Sex Marriage
  • 9 years ago
In a landmark 5-4 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that same sex couples had a constitutional right to marriage in all 50 states. Same sex marriages performed outside the U.S. must also be recognized. U.S. public opinion has evolved on the question; only 37% were in favor of same sex marriage in 2009 compared to 57% today, with strong support among youth, Democrats, and those without religious affiliation.
