Instructions for Application
The trowelled concrete can be placed everywhere: indoors, outdoors, on floors, walls, worktops and even in showers. Everything is possible.
The Material:
To prepare the trowelled concrete, you take a stirrer mounted on a drill, a digital kitchen scale and the tools for application, such as a painting knife and a stainless steel trowel.
Steps:
1. Prepare the mix
To use the trowelled concrete, we have to prepare the mix. We have a binder which is already coloured, cement powder which is already a pre-mix and which can have different colours or be even pre-coloured itself. The final colour will thus be obtained by mixing white or grey cement with the coloured binder.
So we mix them. Attention, we do not add any water. With an electric balance we weigh the ingredients to obtain consistent coherent identical batches. If we take the grey cement and add yellow into it, we will get green (grey + yellow = green). But if we don’t put the same proportions of grey and yellow each time, we will get pale green, dark green etc. So we imperatively use the balance not to make mistakes.
Then ze mix.

2. Place the Product
Now we use a stainless steel trowel and a painting knife. We apply this product in two layers. On decorative wall the product can be applied with a thickness of 1mm. When it is placed in more “serious” zones (floor, showers, countertop, areas used frequently) we apply 2 mm to render it more solid and durable).
We will actually do this in two steps.
Step 1: The aim is not to create something beautiful, but to place a material ensuring a certain thickness, 1.5mm for example. So we place a layer and we leave it to dry a little bit until it starts becoming matt. To become matt it means actually that if we use the pressure, we see that the material is still soft; however, it does not shine anymore since water starts leaving the coating. If we press our finger, the product will not stick anymore. Here we take a sponge, very well dried, and we clear away little imperfections and make up for small application mistakes that we could have made.
After this step we’ve achieved certain thickness and we have a smoothen product. Even a novice is capable to make it pretty and smooth thanks to the polishing with a sponge. We leave the product to dry again and then we place a second layer. This layer must be very fine tight. And we leave to dry. After 4 to 5 hours depending on the temperature we get back to it with a piece of sandpaper (grain around 120). We polish and once again, remove the imperfections.
