MoneyPak Ransomware virus holds computers hostage
  • 9 years ago
The MoneyPak virus is a relatively new ransomware virus attacking US computers. The hackers behind the MoneyPak Ransomware virus are also extorting money.

Hackers attack your computer with a pop up screen saying the FBI has locked your device due to illegal online activity. The virus switches on your computer's webcam and puts your image onto your screen. The message instructs you to go to a major retail outlet and purchase a prepaid Green Dot MoneyPak card for $200 to $500.

The virus then instructs you to enter the MoneyPak card's information onto your computer. After you enter the information, your computer still remains locked. Once the hackers have your money, the trail is virtually untraceable.
