Two FBI agents die in maritime training exercise
  • 9 years ago
Two FBI agents attached to the hostage rescue unit died during a maritime exercise off the coast of Virginia on Friday. The two agents were in the process of fast-roping from a helicopter onto the deck a ship. It was reported that the a strong wind caused the helicopter to suddenly tilt and the two agents failed to hold onto the ropes and fell into the water. One of them was pulled from the water dead, and the other died soon after being rescued. A formal cause of death is likely to be determined in coming weeks.
The hostage rescue team is part of the bureau's Critical Incident Response Group, which is ready to deploy to crises like hostage rescues and terrorists attacks.
