At least 13 people were injured after two bombs went off near a Benghazi courthouse and the Ministry of Justice's branch in the eastern Libyan city Sunday evening.

According to reports, a car bomb was first detonated outside Benghazi's north courthouse. The blast shattered windows and destroyed balconies of many buildings in the area, including ones some distance away from the explosion.

"It was very loud and I saw the smoke," resident Hassan Bakoush told Reuters by telephone, adding that he heard the blast at the court in the north of the city.

Another bomb in a bag was detonated between the Benghazi branch of the Ministry of Justice and the October 7 Hospital.

According to the Lybia Herald, all three buildings were extensively damaged in the blasts, and the courthouse was partially destroyed.

No-one was killed, but a number of people were injured. Mohamed Hejazi, spokesman for the Benghazi Joint Security Room, told the Libya Herald that 10 people were taken to hospital. An eyewitness at the scene said three security guards from the courthouse were injured.
According to Reuters, Benghazi "has seen a wave of violence since last year and just a day earlier, more than 1,100 people escaped from a local prison."
