Children killed in bomb blast in Pakistan after soccer game

Police said at least 11 people, including several children, were killed and 24 others were injured on Wednesday when a bomb was detonated near a nighttime soccer match in the Lyari area of Karachi in Pakistan, according to Reuters.
Local media reported that both players and spectators were leaving the soccer grounds after the match between two local teams of children when the explosion took place. Bomb disposal officials said 5 kg worth of explosives were most likely planted in a motorbike that was parked near the football grounds and detonated remotely.
The intended target was thought to be provincial minister for Kutchi Abadis and Spatial Develpoment Jawaid Nagori. Nagori, who was the chief guest at the tournament, was injured in the blast. His vehicle that was parked nearby was also destroyed by the explosion, which also damaged the street pavement underneath the car.
The children who were killed in the explosion were aged between 12 and 15 who were playing the final match of a Ramadan night tournament, according to local media. Casualties were rushed to nearby hospitals by rescue workers.
One spectator who was injured, Ameer Ali, said the children from the winning team were cheering and shouting after receiving the trophy when the blast occurred, according to Reuters Television.
"'A match was being played. When the match ended, we came out and as soon as we came out there was a blast,' Ali said. 'Everyone started running in panic. Many people were hit, which scared everyone,'" according to Reuters.
