Plane crash: two pilots dead after cargo carrier crashes in Alabama

Two pilots on board an Airbus A300 mid-size cargo carrier died on Wednesday morning after the plane crashed near an airport in Birmingham, Alabama.
According to reports, the aircraft, enroute from Louisville, Kentucky to Birmingham, Alabama, crashed in an open field owned by the airport, approximately 1/2 mile north of Runway 18.
The crash happened at about 6 a.m. and was followed by at least three explosions, local media reported.
The debris was estimated to cover an area of about half a mile. Teams of emergency crews responded to the crash.
It isn't clear what type of cargo was aboard the plane, the Washington Post reported.
Police said no homes were affected by the crash and no one on the ground was injured.
According to reports, the dead bodies of the pilot and copilot, who were not immediately identified, have been found by firefighters about 100 yards from the body of the aircraft.
The cause of the accident is still unclear.
