A Malaysian man was shot after attempting to subdue armed men trying to rob his store on Tuesday, according to a New Straits Times report.

Well-known local jeweller, Abdul Rasul Abdul Razak, owner of Abdul Razak Jewellers, sustained injuries to his abdomen and right shoulder after Tuesday morning's failed robbery attempt.

Two armed men wearing full-face helmets and black jackets rushed into his Kuala Lumpur store as four employees were getting ready to begin work at 9:30 a.m.

"One of the men leapt over the showcase and threatened the workers," said an officer quoted by the paper.

When he heard a commotion from inside his office, the 58-year-old store owner attempted to intervene and confronted the robbers.

Two of the robbers' accomplices, waiting outside on motorcycles, then entered the store and fired several shots at Razak, hitting him twice.

"The men panicked and fled on two motorcycles without taking anything from the shop," said a local police officer quoted by the Malay Mail Online.

Razak survived his wounds and was rushed to a hospital. The two bullets, however, remain lodged in his body, according to his brother.

"His condition is stable now. The doctor said there are a few more examinations to be done before surgery can be carried out to remove the bullets," said his younger brother Abdul Wahab, according to a report by The Star.

The incident represented the first time a robbery had occurred in the store's 63-year history.

A police forensics team recovered three bullet casings and additional evidence from the scene of the crime and are reviewing CCTV footage.
