Peru: Tensions Peak During Protests against Copper Mine

In the farming community of Cocachacra, Peru, police fired teargas at women banging pots and pans on the first day of a 72-hour strike against the Tia Maria copper mine. Demonstrators responded by throwing rocks at police. Government repression against recent protests has left three dead and 200 wounded.
