A British Airways jetliner crashed into a Johannesburg international airport building by the runway on Sunday (December 23) night.

While taxiing before taking off to London, the wing of the Boeing-747 jet sliced into a nearby two-story brick building at the Tambo International Airport.

Following the accident, all 182 passengers onboard disembarked the plane and were put into hotels for the night. No injuries had been reported.

"Customers disembarked safely and were looked after by our staff," the British Airways said in a statement.

"We have launched a full investigation into the incident and are giving our assistance to the independent South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) with the matter," the airline added.
