An unemployed Japanese burglar in his 70s was caught red-handed after bursting into two convenience stores before fleeing with 7,000 yen (US$ 70) early on December 30th, according to a report in the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper.

The suspect, Terutoshi Egawa, is charged with robbing the 52-year-old female clerk of about 7,000 yen (US$ 70) at saw-point. He fled the store with his 35-centimeter saw blade on a bike.

The female clerk chased the burglar and was about to lose him when she borrowed a bike from a security guard and continued the chase. She chased him for 600 meters while shouting ' Stop, thief!' before police rushed over and held him down.

He also pleaded guilty to another attempted theft, but as he couldn't open the till, he fled without cash. He confessed to the two burglary charges during questioning.
