A firecracker slit a girl's throat and killed her in a Lunar New Year tragedy in Taiwan's easternmost city, Taitung.

The 7-year-old girl, surnamed Yang, was lighting firecrackers with her family over the Lunar New Year break. A firecracker was placed in a beer bottle, and was supposed to fly directly into the sky. However, the beer bottle somehow tipped over, and the firecracker shot towards the girl instead.

The firecracker's sharp plastic tip slit the girl's throat like a knife and left a 7.5 centimeter wound on her neck. It also slit her trachea and carotid arteries and caused blood to rush out from the wound. The blood gushed backwards and blocked her nose and mouth, causing her to die by choking on her own blood.

The police is charging Yang's uncle with manslaughter. They urge the government to strengthen supervision over the sales of fireworks.
