One dead, four injured as bus, truck collide in New York City

A bus and truck collision in New York City's Greenwich Village early on Wednesday (February 12) killed the bus driver and injured at least four others.

An eastbound MTA bus on West 14th Street in New York City and a southbound 18 Rabbits Granola truck on 7th Avenue collided at the intersection at around 5:30 a.m. Both vehicles careened onto a sidewalk and into a nearby scaffolded building. There were no pedestrian on site at the time of the incident.

50-year-old William Pena, a city bus driver since 1996, was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver and three passengers aboard the bus were injured from the collision. Two of the four were in critical condition.

New York Daily News reports that the truck was stolen and that its driver was apprehended by the police at the scene.
