Body found: kidnapped Mexican reporter found dead

Authorities have found the body of a reporter who was kidnapped last week from his home in the Gulf Coast state of Veracruz on Tuesday (February 11), according to a Mexican official.

Gregorio Jimenez's body was found with two other bodies in the town of Las Choapas.

Reports say the official spoke on condition of anonymity because he isn't allowed to discuss an investigation that's in progress.

When Jimenez was kidnapped, his wife told police that he was taken by at least five masked gunmen broke into their home in Coatzacoalcos last Wednesday (February 5). Jiminez was allegedly dragged out and driven away in an SUV.

State prosecutors said police and Mexican marines were involved in the search for the missing journalist.

Jimenez was a reporter for newspapers Notisur and El Liberal. He had recently written articles about a wave of kidnappings in Mexico.

A statement by Notisur called Jimenez "a hard-working and honest reporter."
