A 17-year-old high school girl was stabbed to death by her 35-year-old boyfriend in a flat in Hachioji, a city in the Greater Tokyo area, last Wednesday evening, according to a report in the Mainichi Shimbun.

The victim's friend called police after he saw blood pooling beneath the front door. A few hours later, he and police entered the flat by breaking the upstairs window. They found the girl, Haruka Sakurai, lying dead in a pool of blood, with stab wounds on her abdomen and breasts. A bent knife was found in the kitchen.

Police received calls from the victim's family the same night, who were worried because they couldn't reach their daughter. They then started looking for her boyfriend, Yoshio Nakata. Nakata turned himself in at the police station in front of Hiratsuka Station the next day. He is being held in police custody after reportedly confessing to the murder.
