Protesters found financial documents in an abandoned residence of the ousted Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych, revealing his lavish spending.

According to the Australian, many of the financial and other documents were burned while others were dumped in a lake. Divers retrieved the documents and then laid them out to dry.

It was revealed that some $110,000 was spent on curtains in a room called the "Knight's hall" in his private residence is located in the village Novi Petrivtsi, some 20 km away from the capital Kiev. Another $2.3 million was spent on the wooden decor for several rooms. Some $1.5 million was spent on plants and $115,000 was spent for a statue of a "running boar".

Yanukovych left Kiev on Friday night after protesters took control of the capital. His whereabouts remain unknown. More than 70 people were killed and hundreds were injured in the deadly clashes between the protesters and police last week.
