Iraq was struck with another wave of violence on Thursday, as militants launched attacks that targeted mostly Shi'ite neighborhoods in the country.

Baghdad was hardest hit as a series of explosion took place on February 27, with the most severe one in the Sadr City neighbourhood. An explosive-laden motorcycle parked in a second-hand bike market blew up, killing at least 31 and wounding 51.

Reuters reported two bombing attacks targeting two different mini-buses running through Shi'ite sections in the Iraqi capital, which killed at least four.

A militant rammed his vehicle into a checkpoint, killing three soldiers and wounding six others in Mushaada, northern Baghdad.

The assaults resulted in at least 38 deaths and 57 injuries. Many believe that Sunni extremists were behind the attacks, as they often used explosives and suicide bombs. The series of attacks might be a response to Prime Minister Mouri Maliki's decision to wage war against Sunni militants in western Anbar province.
