The search continues on Sunday (March 9) for a Malaysia Airlines aircraft that has gone missing for more than 24 hours.

The missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 left Kuala Lumpur at 12.41am local time on Saturday and was due to land in Beijing on the same day. According to a flight tracking website flightradar24.com, the plane disappeared 40 minutes after takeoff.

According to Reuters, its last known location was some 120 nautical miles off the east coast of the Malaysian town of Kota Bharu.

There had been no reports of bad weather or other failures on the plane. The pilots did not send out distress call before the plane went missing.

Authorities were now investigating four possible cases of suspect identities. Two of them were reportedly using stolen European passports, Reuters reported.

There had been no sign of any wreckage of the missing plane but two oil slicks, measuring 15 to 20 kilometres long, likely linked to the missing plane were spotted some 140 kilometers from Vietnam's coast, according to AFP.

Flight MH370, operating a Boeing 777-200ER aircraft disappeared with 239 people on board.
