Police brutality? Broward cops in Florida kill coconut vendor who possessed machete

Broward County sheriff's deputy Paul Yesbeck has been placed on administrative leave while the department investigates his fatal shooting of an unarmed man at a traffic stop on Sunday. Maharaj Deosaran, a local coconut seller, was shot to death in his car because he made Deputy Yesbeck feel threatened.

A woman busted into a Marathon gas station claiming a man threatened her with a machete. The woman pointed the man's truck out to deputy Yesbeck, who noticed it was driving without lights. When deputy Yesbeck pulled the truck over, Maharaj Deosaran unexpectedly got out. Deosaran then got back in his truck, which made Yesbeck feel threatened, so he killed him. Deosaran's truck then rolled across four lanes and knocked over a palm tree.

Investigators did find a machete, in the back of the truck, with the coconuts. Friends of Maharaj Deosaran told reporters he was a peaceful man. Deosaran's death is the ninth police shooting since January by Broward county deputies and the fifth fatal one.
