In a surveillance video, taken on a South East Pennsylvania Transit Authority platform at Broad and Fairmount on Monday, everything looks normal at first. Passengers are making their ways to the exits, puddles of mysterious water dot the floor. Then, SEPTA officer Ron Jones tries to pull a man off the train. Although apparently calm at first, the man is suspected to be mentally ill and high on PCP. One stop earlier, he told riders he had a gun and was going to start shooting.

Then suddenly, the deranged man attacks Jones. Officer Jones, who is armed with a pistol, instead tries using pepper spray and a baton to bring down his attacker. The fight is intense, and the attacker refuses to be subdued. When he takes Jones down to the ground, the attacker goes for his gun but can't get it unholstered.

Finally, several bystanders come forward and help the officer. The attacker then escapes but was quickly found and arrested. The Jones and his assailant were both treated in hospital for minor injuries. The mentally ill man has been charged with assault.
