Australian investigators have scoured another part of the Indian Ocean for the missing Malaysia airliner after a more thorough analysis of radar data, according to a CNN report.

Based on the new findings, investigators believe the aircraft flew at a higher speed, used more fuel and likely flew less far into the Indian Ocean as previously believed.

The new search area has shifted about 1,100 kilometres to the northeast, and is about 1,850 kilometres from Perth.

The new location makes the search considerably easier, according to a report by Britain's The Guardian. The previous area had covered latitudes between 40 degrees and 50 degrees south, where search parties were constantly battered by strong winds known as 'roaring forties'.

The radar data was logged between the South China Sea and the Strait of Malacca before the aircraft lost contact with civilian and military radars.

Four search aircrafts are now hovering above the new area, with six more jets scheduled to arrive over the course of Friday. Australia has also directed satellites to capture images of the new area.
