Oscar Pistorius broke down in the witness stand on Tuesday when recounting the night he killed his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
The paralympian said that Steenkamp had been cooking when he returned home in the early evening of February 13 last year. The couple had a quiet dinner at around 7 p.m. and retreated to their bedroom on the upper floor about an hour later.
It was a hot and humid night and the air-conditioner was not working. Pistorius said he placed two fans by the balcony doors, and closed and locked the bedroom door. He also put a cricket bat near the door.
After taking off his prosthetic legs, the sprinter was lying on the bed and watching television with Steenkamp, who was also surfing some social media sites at the same time. Pistorius then called his cousin to talk about cars; Steenkamp also got out of the bed and started her yoga exercise.
The couple went to bed after Pistorius talked to his cousin for 30 minutes. At around 10 p.m., the runner dozed off with his head on Steenkamp's stomach, who was still sitting up in bed.
