A San Francisco university student was shot dead when he stumbled into the wrong apartment after a night out drinking.
San Francisco State University student Stephen Guillermo, 26, was returning home to his apartment on the 900 block Mission Street in the early hours of Saturday.
In the midst of a drunken stupor, he accidentally pressed the wrong floor number on the elevator and got off on the third floor instead of the fifth where he lived with his brother and sister.
Guillermo staggered toward the apartment in the same location as his unit and broke in. The man who lived in that apartment, 68-year-old Amisi Sudi Kachepa, allegedly next shot and killed the college student.
Kachepa, who was later arrested, blamed Guillermo for breaking the knob on the door to his unit.
