Former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez has been incited on two first-degree murder charges in the drive-by slayings of two men in Boston in 2012.

Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado were shot to death on July 16, 2012, while stopped at a traffic light at Shawmut Avenue and Herald Street in Boston's South End.

Prosecutors say the victims were unknown to Hernandez prior to the killing and a "chance encounter" at the Cure Lounge in the theater district is what led to the shootings.

Investigators say following the encounter, Hernandez stalked the victims in an SUV. He allegedly pulled up next to the victims' car and fired multiple times with a .38 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver.

Abreu, who was driving, suffered multiple wounds including a fatal wound to the chest. Safiro, who was the front-seat passenger, suffered a fatal wound to the head.

Two of the back-seat passengers were unharmed and fled on foot. A third back-seat passenger suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and remained inside the vehicle with his friends.

Hernandez is also facing charges for the 2013 shooting of friend Odin Lloyd, whose body was found in an industrial park one mile from Hernandez's home.
