Salinas police shooting caught on camera: officers shoot man holding garden shears

Salinas, California police killed a burglary suspect on Tuesday. A nearby resident, recorded the incident on video.
Someone called 911 to report a man had tried to break into their home and threatened the resident's life around 12:15 p.m.
A witness told police that the intruder also threatened to kill the resident's dog and at some point exposed his genitals to the person inside the home.
When the cops arrived, they spotted the man with the gardening shears protruding from his backpack. The man ignored officers' commands to stop and get down. It's at this point that the cops used a taser to subdue him, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
Throughout the two-and-a-half minute video, the suspect can be seen backing away from officers in slow pursuit.
Police released a statement saying the suspect swung the gardening shears at the officers, who then fired their weapons at the suspect in response to the threat.
An object, which appears to be the garden shears, can be seen lying on ground next to the suspect. The man was pronounced dead, and his identity has yet to be released.
Coincidentally, later that day, 100 demonstrators met at a park in Salinas to protest a separate police killing that resulted in the death of Osman Hernandez earlier this month.
