Single mom forced into hooking by debt to loan shark

Last week, police busted this illegal brothel disguised as a betel nut stand and saved two Indonesian female foreign workers in Hsinchu County in northern Taiwan. One of them is a 27 year old single mom, who came to work in Taiwan after a divorce.
Immigration Officer Chen Wei-chung (陳維宗) told us the woman was forced into prostitution because of her huge debt to loan shark here in Taiwan.
After escaping from her previous employer, the 27-year-old single mother was held captive in this brothel, where she was forced to service men over 200 times in four months and was even forced by her pimp to work while on her period.
Bearing the burden of her huge debt to the loan shark and the responsibility to provide for both her son and parents back in Indonesia, she initially consented to work as a prostitute, charging about US$40 for 20 minutes. Yet, the 45-year-old madame Lai Xiu-ping (賴秀萍) stole more than half of her fees and forced the women to work seven days a week.
Upon being rescued, the single mom said she began prostituting to support her family but never expected that she would end up in this misery. She said it's a relief to have finally been caught by police.
The madame, along with other three men that worked for her as bodyguards and drivers, were all arrested last Friday and are now charged with human trafficking.
