A 15-year-old American high school student was brutally beaten by Israeli police as video footage revealed online.

According to ABC News, Florida high school student Tariq Abu Khdeir was visiting relatives in Shuafat, in the West Bank for the summer. Tariq Abu Khdeir told ABC News that he was only watching the protests in East Jerusalem when Israeli police arrested him on Thursday. However, an Israeli police spokeswoman said Khdeir was arrested as he attacked police officers during the protest prior to the funeral for his 16-year-old cousin, Mohammed Abu Khdeir, New York Daily News reported.

Videos filmed by people from their windows nearby show two officers continued kicking and punching Khdeir, who was handcuffed and lying on the ground. He was eventually dragged away by the police, suffering injuries to his eyes, a broken nose and chin.

The U.S. State Department has issued a statement saying it "strongly condemn any excessive use of force" and it is calling for an investigation into the incident, New York Daily News reported.
