GoPro drones are more popular than ever, and their amateur pilots are endangering other aircraft. Two New York men, Remy Castro, 23, and Wilkins Mendoza, 34, were arrested and charged with reckless endangerment on Monday, after police say they flew a remote control drone dangerously close to an NYPD helicopter.

After midnight on monday, an NYPD helicopter spotted a small drone near the George Washington Bridge, flying at 2,000 feet. It came within 800 feet, before the chopper changed direction to avoid a collision.

The drone then flew to northern Manhattan, with the police helicopter following behind. When it landed on a car near Audubon and Fort George Avenues, the helicopter pilots spotted two men holding remote controllers and called patrol cars.

NYPD officers arrived to arrest Remy Castro and Wilkins Mendoza, and have charged the men with felony reckless endangerment for flying dangerously close to the chopper. The men's lawyer, Michael Kushner argues they were only flying the drone at 300 feet.

They were arraigned at Manhattan Criminal Court and released without bail.
