Tattoo removal gone wrong: Hong Kong woman’s hand maimed by laser procedure

A Hong Kong woman named Wendy underwent a laser procedure to remove a tattoo on her hand in May, but ended up with hideous scar as a result.
She went to Windland Medical beauty clinic in Mong Kok, Hong Kong and paid $600 US for a series of tattoo removal laser treatments. Something felt wrong immediately after her first treatment, but the she was told by the nurse that everything was normal.
The pain kept getting worse so Wendy went to another hospital for help. She was admitted immediately and remained hospitalized for two days. The doctor told her she might need skin grafts.
A dermatologist said that in some tattoo removal cases, patients may develop blisters after receiving laser treatment. In Wendy’s case, the procedure may have partially impaired functioning in her left hand.
A Windland Medical representative told reporters that after seeing Wendy’s photos, they arranged for her to see a dermatologist and promised to give her full refund.
Wendy refused further medical attention from the clinic and continued sending photos of her condition. The clinic has questioned the authenticity of the photos. The court has yet to decide whether Wendy will be awarded the $10,000 compensation that she’s asking for.
