A college student has been fined $500 for repeatedly hurling her pet rabbit across a grass field earlier this month.

The student was discovered following a human flesh search by enraged netizens. She is a student at Dayeh University name Chen. A video of her apparently grabbing the rabbit by its ears and flinging it several meters away on the grounds at an Elementary School in Changhua County, Taiwan, was filmed by passersby and uploaded onto the internet.

The video caused an uproar among netizens, so staff at the Changhua County Animal Disease Control Center met with Chen to get to the bottom of this situation.

Chen claimed that because it was the summer and the rabbit was not getting enough exercise, that’s why she tossed the poor animal. She stressed that she loved the animal, and had no intention of harming it. However, the center deemed her action abusive and in violation the Animal Protection Act. Chen was fined only $500 because she showed remorse for her actions, and this was her first offense.
