Man armed with pellet gun shot 80 times by Texas cops. Excessive?

Many pellet guns look like real guns and a man in Texas turned out to be holding a pellet gun when he was shot and killed by police.

The fact that the suspect was carrying a pellet gun is not really the point as of course, the cops didn’t know that when they got a call over the weekend that a man with a gun was seen a truck stop in Laredo.

The police, quite reasonably, took the matter seriously.

But it’s hard to fathom why cops needed to pump 80...yes, that’s right, 80...shots into the suspect.

The surveillance video featured on Live Leak doesn’t show the moments before the shooting --- perhaps the victim, 30-year-old Jose Walter Garza, didn’t follow police instructions.

Garza was also no angel. He’d had been arrested some 30 times in his short life, including for violent offenses.

It’s pretty safe to assume this man had ‘issues’

Furthermore, Garza’s family members said he could be problematic when off his meds for schizophrenia—but 80 times?

Garza’s cousin told the media the family had hoped for an open casket funeral, but he’d been shot so many times ‘he didn’t have a face.’

We’re not passing judgment, and there is an ongoing investigation, but shooting someone 80 times might just be another example of triggers being too flippantly pulled by men with badges.

Agree? Disagree?
