Los Angeles shooting: Bell Gardens mayor killed by his wife

The mayor of the Los Angeles suburb of Bell Gardens Daniel Crespo was shot dead on Tuesday afternoon by his wife.
According to San Diego 6 quoting county sheriff and fire officials, the shooting happened shortly after 2:30 p.m. at a townhome or apartment complex in the 6300 block of East Gage Avenue.
The shooting was the result of a quarrel between Crespo and his wife Levette, which escalated after their 19-year-old son tried to intervene, Reuters reported.
Crespo got into a physical altercation with his son, when Levette came back with a gun and shot her husband several times in the torso. Crespo died later at the hospital.
Levette Crespo has been detained by police for questioning and then released, USA Today reported. An investigation is ongoing to determine whether charges will be applied.
Crespo and his wife were married for nearly 30 years.
According to Reuters, the shooting doesn't appear to be related to Crespo's mayoral activities.
Crespo was elected to the City Council in 2001.
The mayor’s post is rotated among council members.
