Elementary school bullying drives second grader to suicide attempt, mom sues school district
  • 9 years ago
A Tennessee mother has filed suit against Dickson County School district, after her son, 8, attempted suicide multiple times stemming from bullying he experienced as a student at Oakmont Elementary School, according to local reports.

Ashley Shupe claims her son was bullied for two years causing him to fall into a deep depression and even attempted suicide.

The most recent incident happened in March, when the second grader told his mother he'd been hit in the face with a ball and tripped, after he accidentally knocked into the bully during a game of basketball.

Upset that she was not contacted about the incident and that her son was not taken to the nurse for his injuries, Shupe filed a police report.

She's now seeking $300,000 from the Dickson County School district for negligence in their handling of her son's bullying.
