Detroit police officer punches unarmed black man Floyd Dent in traffic stop
  • 9 years ago
The Detroit area police officer caught on tape punching and kicking a black male suspect during a traffic stop has been charged with felony assault.

Former Inkster Police officer William Melendez was seen in dash cam video punching Floyd Dent sixteen times.

Dent was facing drug charges after police say they found crack cocaine in his car at the time of the beating, but they have since been dropped.

Dent maintained that the officers had planted the evidence in his car and had no drugs in his system following the incident.

Melendez is also charged with mistreatment of a prisoner and misconduct in office after footage from the Inkster police station shows Dent appearing to be in severe pain wiping blood from his head.

There's no audio but Dent told Local 4 reporters he was begging officers for medical attention, which was not provided until much later.
