A garbage can tossed onto New York’s subway tracks triggered a massive explosion when an MTA worker tried to dislodge it on Sunday.
Video footage of the brave employee taken at around 5:50am shows him removing a metal can from the tracks with a rail paddle at the Cypress Avenue stop in the Bronx, the New York Post reports.
As the unidentified man is seen trying to remove the can, a northbound number 6 train strikes it. Igniting the can and showering the subway worker with flaming sparks.
The MTA worker poked the can with the wooden rail paddle then was electrocuted with a series of bangs and bursts of light which engulfed him.
Miraculously, the worker wasn’t seriously injured in the blast, according to MTA spokesman Kevin Ortiz told the New York Post. “We continue to work with (the) NYPD who have already arrested individuals a couple of weeks ago,” Ortiz said.
According to the person who posted the video on YouTube, the trash was thrown by a group of teens who call themselves “conquestors.”
