Underwater Volcano Eruption Suspected Off the Oregon Coast

Scientists believe the underwater volcano Axial Seamount is erupting deep in the ocean off the coast of Oregon; it is not expected to be a threat to coastal residents.

Numerous indicators seem to show that an underwater volcano may be erupting off the coast of the Pacific Northwest. 

The activity is likely attributed to Axial Seamount, a mountain on the Juan de Fuca Ridge located about 300 miles from Oregon and about a mile deep into the Pacific Ocean.
