Anti-Kremlin activist Alexei Navalny faces another stumbling block

Anti-Kremlin activist Alexei Navalny’s Party of Progress has had its legal registration cancelled, the Russian Justice Ministry reports. It says the party failed to register its regional branches on time.

Navalny had planned to join forces with another anti-government party ahead of the 2016 parliamentary elections.

His intended ally was RPR Parnas – led by Boris Nemtsov until his murder in February. The Party of Progress made plans for a coalition after the fatal shooting.

Navalny says “the Party of Progress will stay as a political structure.”
