Propaganda Leaflets 'Truth-telling' or'Dangerous Provocation'
The most recent escalation of inter-Korean tensions came in the days leading to the 5th anniversary of the Cheonan attack, when an advocate organization for North Korean defectors threatened to send propaganda leaflets to North Korea if the North did not issue an apology for the attack, and the North retaliated by threatening to fire on the village from which the leaflets would be flown.
Residents of border regions are voicing strong criticism of the distribution of propaganda leaflets as it threatens put their lives and the local economy in jeopardy.
It seems that the propaganda leaflets are not just causing tensions between the two Koreas but also conflicts with South Korea.
There are those who say the leaflets are messages of love to North Korean residents, inspiring them to break free from the dictatorship, while others see it as dangerous provocations and call for alternatives to be sought. We talk to people on both sides to understand this fascinating conflict and ask if there is a compromise to be made.
